What If It Rains on My Wedding Day?

Let's address the elephant in the (tropical) room: it rains in Puerto Rico. Even in peak dry season, a brief afternoon shower is always possible. Here's what we tell every couple:

Showers Are Brief

Most tropical rain showers last 15–30 minutes and are followed by sunshine. They are not mainland rainstorms.

Every Good Venue Has a Plan

All venues in our guide have tested rain plans. Ask about theirs during your venue tour — a great venue will show you, not just tell you.

Rain Photos Are Magical

Some of the most stunning wedding photos we've ever seen include rain. Mist, droplets, reflections — it adds drama that sunshine can't.

Evening Ceremonies Win

If rain is a concern, schedule your ceremony for 4:30pm or later. Most rain happens mid-afternoon and clears by evening.

The couples who stress least about rain are the ones who have the best day. Trust your venue, trust your team, and embrace whatever the island gives you.

Weather FAQ

January through April is the prime wedding season in Puerto Rico, offering the best combination of dry weather, comfortable temperatures, and reliable conditions for outdoor ceremonies. February and March are the most popular months. December is also excellent with the added bonus of holiday festivities.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August and September. We strongly recommend avoiding September entirely. June, July, and early August can work well with proper planning — brief afternoon rain showers are normal but rarely ruin events. November is excellent as hurricane risk drops sharply.

Brief tropical rain showers are a normal part of life in Puerto Rico, even during dry season. Most last 15–30 minutes and are followed by sunshine. Every good venue has a rain plan, and experienced Puerto Rico wedding teams handle rain seamlessly. Many couples find that a brief rain shower adds to the tropical magic rather than detracting from it.

Average temperatures range from 75–90°F year-round, with higher humidity from May through October. For maximum comfort, plan your ceremony for early morning (before 10am) or sunset (after 4:30pm) to avoid peak heat. Evening receptions are always comfortable. Rainforest venues like Templīs Aquaria are naturally cooler due to canopy shade and elevation.
